Betonite clay is formed from the weathering of volcanic ash, specifically from the transformation of volcanic glass into minerals. It is a fine, light-grey powder which contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron and offers therapeutic and cosmetic benefits.

Bentonite clay is commonly used in cosmetics like creams, hair masks, lotions, body scrubs and face masques. It is used to remove impurities, oil and toxins from the skin.

It can be used as a face and body masque as it will draw out toxins and impurities. Mixed to a paste with a little water, it can make an effective scrub. Boasting antibacterial properties, it can help reduce inflammation cause by acne and help heal insect bites and irritation. It can be used as a body wrap.

It can be used as a scalp treatment to remove scalp flakes and possibly boost hair growth. Mix into shampoos or use as a treatment.

It can be mixed with water to form a masque or added to your formulas, such as bath bombs or body scrubs. Essential oils and/or botanicals can be added. 

Due to it's powerful ability to draw out toxins and cleanse, the clay can sometimes have a slightly drying effect on the skin, so use with caution until you are sure it suits your skin.
